Swapping rollers is one of the more doable jobs on a garage door, and plenty of Prospect Heights homeowners have the tools for it. You're loosening the track brackets, sliding the old roller stem out, and dropping a new one in. On a door with a low-headroom or double-track setup, though, the bottom brackets carry cable tension, and unclamping the wrong bracket on a door with old torsion springs can put a bracket into your hand. If your rollers are the bottom-corner type, that's a job we'd rather do than have you learn on. Top and middle rollers on a door that's not under spring load are fair game for a patient owner with a socket wrench and a Saturday afternoon. If you're not sure which rollers you're looking at, send us a photo before you start pulling brackets.
